I need to loose 20lbs by August 8th at the extreme latest..can I do it? Any tips?
So this is it - the first post for SKinTalk! (The K is in caps since I’ll be touching on Korean skincare and tips and more - the K-way!)
You ask: Why is everything about Korea?! Is Korean skincare that great?
I’m sure you guys are not strangers to the huge K-pop wave that has been washing over the world, especially with the recent hit Gangnam Style which horse-rode itself to the #1 song in Korea and is the most viewed Youtube video in the world as well!
Why I chose to talk about the Korean way of skincare is also because Koreans are well-known for their high beauty standards; many great skincare brands originate from there, and well let’s face it, they have placed such importance in good looks to also be famous for plastic surgery. But let’s not overlook the fact that Koreans DO look good, and we are talking about the K-idols whom millions of people around the world adore and envy.
K-idols are known to go on strict diets to control how they look, and usually these diets are made up of fruits, vegetables, and (surprisingly or not) eggs (eggs are filled with protein and are low in calorie as well, good for diet). We won’t go into the ‘slimming’ factor of their diets just yet, but these foods are also the right foods to promote healthy skin growth.

In the last post I mentioned I made a trip down to Dermatology Practice for a short chat session with Dr Lim, and got a few skincare tips from him regarding the right and wrong food to eat. I further did some research online for the food K-idols eat, and compiled a general list for you guys below:
Say YES! to these Foods
- High in Vitamin C (This means Fruits)
- High in Vitamin E (This means Vegetables, nuts, etc)
- Water (not food, but very important to flush out toxins and helps with the general health of the body as well)
Say NO! to these Foods
- Dairy Foods (This means Chocolates guys!ㅠㅠ It’s a big no-no!)
- Spicy food
- Oily food (You guys already know, Fast Food X)

You ask: Can you be more specific in what foods Korean Idols eat to maintain good skin?
Song Joong Ki: Apples and Yogurt - which helps in good digestion, that in turns help with better skin
Go Hyun Jung: Raw salads, fresh apple/blueberry/carrot juice, grapefruit tea, honey.
Song Hye Gyo: Lots of fruits and veggies - and sometimes eggs
Girls’ Generation (SNSD)’s Tiffany: Drinking lots of water
4minute’s Hyuna: Drinking so much water that members call her ‘hippopotamus’!
KARA’s Seungyeon: Pork skin (Pork skin?! After further research (1, 2), seems that the Chinese believes pork skin is good for collagen, famous for its anti-ageing properties. Pork itself also contains Vitamin B1 and Riboflavin which repairs skin tissues. Honestly, Seungyeon just loves pork…)

Let’s zoom zoom in on a case study!
CASE STUDY: SEOHYUN FROM GIRLS’ GENERATION
I don’t deny my adoration for the 9 girls of Girls’ Generation, and the girls have been on soooo many skincare product endorsements, their skin conditions have always been under the spotlight. And who else better to talk about than goguma(sweet potato)-lover, maknae(youngest) Seohyun?
Seohyun is widely known for her ‘upright ethics’ and constant pursue of ‘self-motivation and improvement’, which was broadcasted as she filmed MBC variety show “We Got Married” with CNBLUE’s Yonghwa as a make-believe couple. Her love for sweet potatoes is unbelievable; she once ate so much her skin turned colour!
3 Quirky Facts About Seohyun:
1) Used to set 12AM as bedtime - she must sleep at 12AM to ensure good skin and healthy body. (This had to change when SNSD’s schedules got busier)
2) Tells off all her unnies (other members in SNSD) for eating fast food. Sunny mentioned, “Whenever Seohyun sees me eating fast food, she would approach me and tell me that I will die very quickly if I continue eating fast food.”
3) Seohyun was voted 2nd as “The stars who are so beautiful that they look like they don’t need cosmetics” in a survey done in Korea in June 2012.

Here’s a quote from an interview she did with Vogue Girl in 2011 (credits YongSeoInternational):
The reason why my skin looks so good // genetics vs. dermatology
Seohyun: Neither one. I just work to death managing my skincare. However, I don’t have the luxury and time to go to a dermatologist to take care of my skin. Even on my own, I thought I needed to properly manage myself. I put on facial masks nearly everyday, use sleeping packs at night, and consciously apply facial mist all the time. I also drink water whenever I have the time. No matter how tired I am, I properly conduct my skin care before sleeping, getting enough sleep is also very important, so when I have free time, I sleep. I don’t eat any fatty foods. Instead I eat foods like the vegetables and tropical fruits, or make natural shakes. Did you see the ma shakes I’ve made on programs before? My friends said it didn’t taste good, but I think the healthy taste is good. I really have dozens of rules on skin care. Properly following all of them is the most important point.

YOU are what you EAT - your skin as well!
Start saying yes and no to the list of food above! Maybe you could try a fruit-veggie diet, or swear-off chocolates for a week, and share if it works? ;)
